Government clarifies comments made by President on RAW and port

Senaratne however maintained that the President did not accuse RAW but only stated what was being claimed by others.Meanwhile, the cabinet office said that there was no cabinet paper submitted on giving the East Terminal of the Colombo Port to India.There were reports the President and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had different views on giving the East Terminal of the Colombo Port to India when a cabinet paper on the terminal was submitted for approval. Speaking at the post cabinet press conference today, Senaratne slammed media reports which claimed that the President accused RAW of being involved in a plot to assassinate him. Meanwhile, cabinet spokesman Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said that the President never said the RAW agency was behind a plot to kill the President. The Government today clarified reports made by President Maithripala Sirisena on the East Terminal of the Colombo Port and possible links between the Indian RAW agency and an alleged plot to assassinate him.The cabinet office said that there was no comment made by the President refusing to give the East Terminal of the Colombo Port to India. He said that the President had only noted that there were claims being made that RAW was linked to the allegation of the assassination plot.However an Indian journalist who was at the press conference insisted that some Ministers who were at the cabinet meeting had told her that the President accused RAW of being involved in the plot. However the cabinet office insisted that the President only discussed talks he had with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier on steps which need to be taken to strengthen ties between India and Sri Lanka.
