Malaysias Mount Kinabalu reopens

first_imgTourism Malaysia has announced Mount Kinabalu will repoen to climbers on 1 September 2015.The mountain has been closed since a 5.9 magnitude earthquake occurred in the region on 5 June this year, in which 18 people where tragically killed.The trail from Timpohan to Laban Rata will be opened from 1 September with new restrictions to ensure maximum safety.At any one time, a maximum 100 climbers will be allowed on the mountain – about half of the usual allowance.The summit trail from Laban Rata is expected to open on 1 December this year.Mount Kinabalu, located in the Malaysian state of Sabah on the island of Borneo, stands at over 4,000 metres.It boasts spectacular views, wildlife and the world’s highest via ferrata (currently undergoing repairs).
