Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul’s future uncertain, hit by BCCI red tape

first_imgHardik Pandya and KL Rahul are back home, cooling their heels, suspended for their crass comments in TV show Koffe with Karan. Replacements have been called for the remaining three ODIs in Australia and the subsequent limited-overs games in New Zealand. Five months before the 2019 World Cup, their future remains uncertain. The much maligned duo’s fate hangs in the balance as the BCCI’s Committee of Administrators (COA) continue to spar over the composition of the inquiry committee. COA member Diana Edulji wants CEO Rahul Johri out of picture, arguing it would be ‘bad optics’ for Bthe CCI due to the sexual harassment case around him.COA Chairman Vinod Rai wants to administer through the CEO as per the new constitution. “The COA is duty bound to follow the new constitution and what you are suggesting is neither in consonance with the constitution nor is it as per the legal advice received.”It cannot be the case that we follow legal advice only when we consider it, ‘justifiable’. I can’t be party to this decision and process,” he told Edulji in an internal communications accessed by India Today. The letter gets terser. “Also please note that since you do not want to follow the suggestion of legal to have an ad hoc ombudsman, your suggestion runs the risk of your committee being ‘judge, jury and executioner’. Please go ahead and take it forward. I will keep away and leave it to you,” he wrote.Edulji in reply, accused Rai of following the constitution on a selective basis. “COA can’t be duty bound in selected matters and that’s what I have been highlighting all through, that we should act as per the rules and regulations being the new constitution at all times.advertisement”Your point of not going against a Supreme Court Direction/Constitution is what I have been time and again warning about as you have acted against the Supreme Court Direction/Constitution in the matter of Women’s team Head Coach where a committee was appointed inspite of CAC being there and also in the case of sexual harassment matter of Rahul Johri, you unilaterally appointed the independent committee which is not as per the Constitution and I had opposed for that also,” she replied.Edulji’s communication indicates, Pandya and Rahul, currently thrown a seven-day show cause notice, could have to wait until January 17th at least, when the Supreme Court takes up the BCCI case.”As the SC hearing is scheduled for 17th Jan, let the court be informed about this situation and let an Ombudsman be appointed by the court instead of taking a wrong step of appointing the ad hoc ombudsman, which is not as per the new constitution,” she wrote.Meanwhile, BCCI members have asked the acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary to call for a Special General Meeting (SGM) for the appointment of the Ombudsman of the BCCI to adjudicate the case, once the investigations are complete. Also Read | How Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul got into trouble for Koffee with Karan: A timelineAlso Read | Sreesanth backs Hardik, Rahul: Others have made bigger mistakes but are still playingAlso Read | As Hardik, Rahul stand suspended, BCCI official questions Harmanpreet in fake degree controversyAlso Read | Babul Supriyo slams Diana Edulji over Hardik, Rahul suspensions after Koffee with Karanlast_img
