Man United 1-1 Leicester: Martial goal keeps champagne on ice for 10-man Foxes

first_img1 Leicester City missed the chance to claim the Premier League crown as Manchester United earned a draw to delay their coronation.Anthony Martial looked like he was going to spoil the party when he scored early on but captain Wes Morgan equalised for the visitors.Danny Drinkwater saw red with only minutes remaining for a second booking but despite late pressure, they held on for the draw. The result means if Leicester are to win the title on this bank holiday weekend, they must rely on Chelsea to do them a favour and beat Tottenham and Stamford Bridge on Monday night.United dominated the opening exchanges and Leicester looked ragged in defence as the occasion seemed to induce some nerves in the Foxes. The hosts had had 80 per cent of possession when they took the lead in the eighth minute as Antonio Valencia beat Christian Fuchs too easily before standing the ball up for Martial to slam passed Kasper Schmeichel at the back post. And it was nearly 2-0 after 14 minutes when Jesse Lingard fired a low shot into the bottom corner but Schmeichel came up with a stunning save. The save proved crucial as Leicester were level three minutes later when Morgan got the better of Marcos Rojo from Danny Drinkwater’s free-kick and nodded the ball into the net from four yards out.Marouane Fellaini could be facing a retrospective three-game ban for his first-half shenanigans after television cameras caught the Belgian elbowing Robert Huth in the chin after the German appeared to pull his hair.Shinji Okazaki and Leandro Ulloa both had decent chances to give the Foxes the lead after half time as Leicester dominated the start of the second half. The Argentine had another great opportunity with only 25 minutes to go but he got too much on his flicked header and it sailed over the crossbar. With three minutes remaining Drinkwater was shown his second yellow card for tugging down Memphis Depay on the edge of the area, but the ten-man Foxes held on for the draw. The game ended with the points shared and while Leicester fans must remain patient, United’s followers will be beginning to lose patience as they sit four points off fourth with three games remaining.
