BYU Men’s Basketball Conducts Annual Media Day Wednesday

first_img Written by FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailPROVO, Utah-Wednesday, BYU men’s basketball addressed the media at the BYU Broadcasting Center for the Cougars’ annual media day.Representatives included head coach Mark Pope and seniors, forward Yoeli Childs, guard Jake Toolson and guard TJ Haws.Pope said he enjoys the fact that he has seven seniors as they have a “calming influence” on the rest of the squad and continued, “seniors are magic.”Pope also stated of his squad, “we love drama” concerning a question about how the Cougars handle adversity. Furthermore, he lauded former BYU head coach Dave Rose for helping his squad “understand the nuances of the game.”Childs, when asked what the Cougars have to do to play the right way this season, said “we need to get to the right spots [and] move the ball.”He was also asked about the addition of Toolson to the program and his previous experience with Pope at Utah Valley University. Childs was impressed with this move, saying “it takes out a lot of the guesswork.”In speaking of fellow senior forward Dalton Nixon, Childs lauded him as “a cutter” and “the perfect glue guy,” and calling him “the dude that everyone wants on their team.”Toolson cited the special bond that exists between himself and the coaching staff and said “I want to finish this experience with them.”When asked about Pope’s comment concerning the magic of seniors, Haws said “our guys really know what it takes to win day in and day out.”In closing, Haws said the seniors really want to go out and win and that this season presents a great opportunity for such to occur.
